About Torry

Torry is a community that lies in the heart of Aberdeen on the south bank of the River Dee.

The area was widely known for its fishing community and though the industry is not as prosperous as it once was, there are still remnants of a community whose heart was at the very centre of the Aberdeen fishing community. Small fishing houses dot the back streets and from the top the of hill in Torry, the stunnning view of the harbour is visible.

Overtaken by the Oil Industry in the 1970’s you don’t have to look far to see the footprints left by the Maritime Industry in Torry.

Torry is seen as a priority regeneration neighbourhood by Aberdeen city council.

The community is going through transition with a regeneration of the high street, Victoria Road. A business venture named Retail Rocks will see old shops rejuvenated with a bustle of new buildings. The shops will bring a new wave of industry and the plan is the first of its kind in Scotland.

The Community Council in Torry will relaunch the community website this Spring.

The website, Torry Matters, has been used by the community since 2006 and residents are keen to see it kept up to date to inform the community.

Community Secretary, Dawn Bellamy, said It would let the community “know what was going on in and around their community.”

Contact details are available on the Website if you wish to become involved.
